You might remember the video of Christy describing our haul from the farmers' market in Russell, Arkansas - included among the bounty was a quart of baby brussels sprouts.
Well, close to a thousand miles later in Colorado I decided to cook them, rather than pelt Christy with 'em. It was a difficult decision.
Here's how I prepared the brussels sprouts: I pulled the smoked bacon (from the the Eunice, LA Superette and Slaughterhouse) used for seasoning from the container of leftover black eyed peas (can't remember where we got those). I cooked the bacon for a while in a cast iron skillet on the grill, and added some extra bacon grease. Next I threw in the brussels sprouts, added a healthy dose of all-purpose seasoning (that's also known as Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce), then added salt and pepper.
I let this cook for maybe 20 or 30 minutes, stirring, tasting, and adding more Sriracha, salt and pepper. To finish it, I poured in a few ounces of Virgil's Real Cola (left over from making the bourbon and cola I drank while cooking).
Instructions for serving and eating: Spoon on to plate. With your fork, scoop up some of the bacon and spear one of the brussels sprouts. Put this delectable treat in your mouth, savor the bacon and suck the sauce off the brussels sprout - then spit the brussels sprout out on the ground or in the general direction of your partner. There's just nothing that can be done to make brussels spouts taste good.
Turns out I should have pelted Christy with 'em instead of cooking them.
