Coastal Oregon - No Technology

So we made it all the way to the Pacific Ocean.   The trees are dense and tall, creating a jungle type feeling...except really cool and damp.

We arrived after sunset but hoped to find a spot.  These campgrounds are first come, first serve.  Since there are a lot of them along the coast we had options.  But we were lucky to find a spot we liked at the first one we tried: Carl G. Washburne Park on Hwy 101.

The highway separates the campground from the coastline; there's a .25 mile trail from the campground under the highway and out to the beach.  Unexpected signs for us: warnings about black bears, cougars, and even tsunamis.

The beach was pretty, but too cold and windy to really spend much time there.   And it was rainy, so we spent a good bit of time at the campsite hanging out near shelter.

These crazy blue birds were hanging around our campsite.  They clearly had learned to beg for food.  John appeased them, tossing bits of popcorn their way.

Surprise! A Game!

We had picked up some pizza dough at a great little food store in Eugene, so we took advantage of the grill and made wood-fired pizza. Added a salad with veggies from a farmer outside Eugene.

We also made a fig/manchego/proscuitto flatbread one night. Strawberry pancakes and sausage (from Windy Hill back home) for breakfast.  Barbee Farms popcorn for a snack...tossed with cajun seasoning we picked up at Eunice Superette while passing through Louisiana.
